Blessed is the Fire (SATB with brief A & B divisi, a cappella, soprano/tenor soli) – a setting of a chalice-lighting text by Eric Heller-Wagner.

The Bud (SATB, SAT trio, a cappella) – a gentle piece on healing, with text from celebrated American poet Galway Kinnell.

       Come Unto Me (SSATBB, a cappella) – a setting of the well-known text from Matthew’s gospel. Recording by Collegium Vocale, Nashville (David Childs, conductor)

The Dawning of Our Dreams (SATB, piano, congregation) – a choral hymn for Advent, with printable page for congregation. Original text interspersed with the chant Veni, Emanuel.

Here in this Room (SATB, piano) – composed to open the 50th anniversary celebration of First UU Nashville. Lively and vigorous! Calls for a very solid pianist. Text by Ethel Crow (poet and long-time member of FUUN, d. 1995)

       King for a Day (SATB, piano, optional rhythm section and horns) – written to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and first sung by the combined choirs of FUUN and Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville. Horn parts not published – contact me directly if you want them. Recording from the CD The Fire of Commitment.

Life Again (SSATB, a cappella, soprano solo) – a chant-inspired setting of John Bannister Tabb’s (1845-1909) Easter poem “Evolution,” with a alleluias between the chant sections.

       Lift Your Voice and Sing (SSAATTBB, three-hands piano, percussion, opt. strings) – Silliman Award Winner (2002), after an opening build-up, this piece explodes with joy and sets a exuberant tone for celebratory worship. Recording from a live worship service, First UU Nashville.

The Longest Night (Multiple settings – solo baritone, SATB, or SSAA, with piano) – a lush and rich for the winter holidays. Poem from Julie Forrest Middleton’s A Winter Solstice Singing Ritual. Recording on the Yelton Rhodes site (click the link!) by Aurora Chorus, conducted by Joan Szymko.

       Love is the Spirit of this Church (SSATBB, a cappella) – a dramatic declaration of James Vila Blake’s (1842-1925) classic Unitarian covenant. Recording from the CD The Fire of Commitment.

       Peace, My Heart (SATB, piano, cello, soprano solo) – a heart-felt setting of Rabindranath Tagore’s beautiful poem. Appropriate for funerals and services of farewell. Recording from the CD The Fire of Commitment.

Sing a New Song (SATB, piano) – a setting of a portion of Psalm 98. Fast and joyous, this piece features each section separately with the melody before joining forces in a fugue that leads to a thunderous ending.

A Single Tear (SATB, piano, soprano solo) – a haunting piece written in memory of the martyrs of the Civil Rights Movement. Original text.

       Standing on the Side of Love (SATB, piano, congregation, opt. rhythm section) – a congregational hymn with choral “backup” parts, celebrating equality and love in all its forms. Recording from the CD The Fire of Commitment.
